Talk on Space Science for Sixth-Grade Students

On November 9, 2024, Professor Shogo Tachibana of the University of Tokyo Organization for Planetary and Space Science (UTOPS) gave a talk on space science to sixth-grade students at Nakamura Elementary School in Nerima, Tokyo.

During the session, he revisited and expanded on topics previously discussed with the students in their fifth-grade classes, including asteroid Ryugu and the Hayabusa2 mission. He also answered a number of questions about space and Earth that had been submitted by the students in advance.

Professor Shogo Tachibana of the University of Tokyo Organization for Planetary and Space Science (UTOPS)participated as a guest speaker in the event “Career Talk with Professionals” held for second-year students at Ishikawa Prefectural Kanazawa Izumigaoka High School.

During the event, he gave a talk titled “Seeking the Recipe of the Solar System,” introducing the science of the Solar System and research on extraterrestrial materials.

UTOPS seminar

Dr. George Cody, Earth and Planets Laboratory, Carnegie Science, visited UTOPS and gave lectures “The Ancient and complex history recorded in organic solids in meteorites, and why this is important!” (introductory) and “Complexity in primitive chondrite heating and fluid chemical histories: a potentially unrealized major complexity” (advanced).

He talked about the importance and what we can learn about extraterrestrial organic materials.
