{"id":1595,"date":"2026-02-12T09:52:46","date_gmt":"2026-02-12T00:52:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/utops.s.u-tokyo.ac.jp\/en\/?p=1595"},"modified":"2026-03-12T10:16:05","modified_gmt":"2026-03-12T01:16:05","slug":"project-on-lunar-resource-exploration-selected-for-jaxa-space-strategy-fund","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/utops.s.u-tokyo.ac.jp\/en\/project-on-lunar-resource-exploration-selected-for-jaxa-space-strategy-fund\/","title":{"rendered":"Project on Lunar Resource Exploration Selected for JAXA Space Strategy Fund"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A research project involving members of the&nbsp;<strong>Department of Earth and Planetary Science, Graduate School of Science, The University of Tokyo<\/strong>, has been selected under the&nbsp;<strong>Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) Space Strategy Fund (2nd Phase)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project, titled&nbsp;<strong>\u201cDevelopment of a Flight Model for Water and Metal Element Exploration Equipment and Actual Measurement of Lunar Resource Quantities,\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;aims to establish technologies for exploring&nbsp;<strong>water and metallic elements as potential lunar resources<\/strong>. The project was officially approved on&nbsp;<strong>February 10, 2026<\/strong>, marking the launch of the&nbsp;<strong>LUNAR-RABBIT Project<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The research team will develop four observation instruments designed to measure the&nbsp;<strong>concentration and mineral composition of elements on the lunar surface<\/strong>. These instruments include a&nbsp;<strong>wide-angle spectroscopic camera, neutron and gamma-ray sensors, a laser-induced plasma emission spectrometer (LIBS), and a microscopic spectroscopic camera<\/strong>.
